Salsa

Probably the most well-known dance form from Cuba, salsa literally means a spicy sauce. For most people, however, it conjures up the energetic endorphin-raising partner dance synonymous with Latin America but most especially with Cuba.

Many are familiar with this hugely popular music and dance style, but fewer know that Afro-Cuban culture is richly peppered with a range of influences from Africa, Spain, Latin America, and Haiti. Many of these influences can be seen when salsa is danced as the moves and flavours of other styles and traditions are incorporated into the dance.

Today thousands of people partake in or are learning this feel-good dance all across the world, not just in Latin America and Cuba but also in the Middle East and Asia, and of course in Europe, Australia, and the US.

CubanaDanza, Cubacheche’s new Cuban dance group, offers its own unique interpretation of this hugely popular dance form.
