Celebrating the music, folklore, and culture of Cuba
Rumberos de Cuba at WOMAD

Cubacheche, with support from Music Worldwide Ltd, is proud to have organised the first UK tour for Rumberos de Cuba – one of Cuba’s top folkloric groups.

Described as having “some of the best and most engaging musicians and dancers from the barrios of Havana”, Rumberos de Cuba wowed audiences throughout their 3-week tour in July 2008.

The tour included high profile performances – the biggest was on the Siam Stage at the WOMAD festival to a crowd of over a thousand – and also more intimate appearances at events such as El Rumbon Cubano at Tito’s Latin Club, London. Audiences enjoyed spectacular shows, including Cuban rumba and the folkloric music and dance of the Yoruba, Karabali, Congo, and Abakua traditions.

Master musicians and dancers from Rumberos de Cuba also taught a variety of workshops covering rumba and Afro-Cuban traditions. These drumming, dancing, and singing workshops were hugely popular and enthusiastically received by beginner, intermediate, and advanced level workshop participants alike.
